Anthurium papillilaminum Ralph Lynam

An important piece of information upfront:
There is very little information available on the Anthurium Papillilaminum 'Ralph Lynam'. The information in this entry comes from various sources and is only partially documented.

Anthurium Papillilaminum 'Ralph Lynam' is a single clone that Fred Mueller and Jay Vannini (JV) discovered in the wild near the Panama Canal in the 1980s/90s. They also found another similar plant there, the Anthurium Papillilaminum 'Fort Sherman'.

Ralph Lynam was a horticulturist who brought a Papillilaminum ecotype from Panama to the USA. He was a friend and business partner of Dewey Fisk (DF), another horticulturist from South Florida.
Fort Sherman is a former US military base on the Toro Peninsula in the Colón Province along the Panama Canal, not far from the location where Jay Vannini discovered this specific Papillilaminum ecotype.
As far as is known, JV eventually acquired or received a clone of Ralph Lynam's Papillilaminum – likely from Dewey, as the two were friends before Dewey's death – and crossed it with his Anthurium Papillilaminum 'Fort Sherman', which resulted in the well-known "RLxFS" or "FSxRL".

There are rumors suggesting that Anthurium Papillilaminum 'Ralph Lynam' is a hybrid of Anthurium Papillilaminum and Anthurium Portillae. However, there is no evidence to support this to date. Crossbreeding experiments involving backcrosses of Anthurium papillilaminum × Anthurium crystallinum with Anthurium papillilaminum have produced similar phenotypes.

Anthurium Papillilaminum 'Ralph Lynam' can be described as follows:
A canal-type Papillilaminum with velvety, almost deep black leaves when conditions are right. Similar to Anthurium Papillilaminum 'Fort Sherman', Anthurium Papillilaminum 'Ralph Lynam' is an original form of a wild-collected Papillilaminum that has been found in plant collections for many years.
