4Aroids

4Aroids was founded in 2024 by three plant enthusiasts. The startup focuses on anthuriums and almost exclusively its own hybrids, which are primarily grown by the founders themselves. Otherwise, it is explicitly stated in the description that they have not been grown by us.

We want to be your favorite store for affordable, common and unusual anthuriums. You won't find all the bells and whistles that other stores offer here. Our focus is on anthuriums and the things that are useful in this context. You will also find detailed descriptions of countless well-known anthuriums in our 4Aroids encyclopaedia. So we don't just want to be your favorite store, but also your point of contact for questions about anthuriums. Our 4Aroids encyclopedia is constantly being expanded.
If you have any questions that our encyclopedia might not be able to answer, please send us an e-mail. We are always happy to help, but if you don't want to miss anything, you can also sign up for our newsletter (below) and become part of the 4Aroids circle of friends. Here we present the latest plants, hybrids and information about anthuriums, and you can also follow us on Instagram:

Henner

Passion became profession.
10 years ago, Henner would probably have killed a cactus. Today, his living room alone is home to more than 50 large plants, and it all started when Henner was looking for plants for his new house.
First there were a few, then there were more and in the end his home became a small jungle. His passion for the green world began long before corona and has grown steadily ever since.
The path led from monsteras and philodendrons, with a brief detour to syngoniums and alocasia, and finally to anthuriums. Monsteras and Philos still adorn his living space, but his true passion is Anthuriums, and his absolute favorites at the moment are Anthuriums with a wide sinus, such as the NSE Portillae or the hybrid Mr. Worldwide, or special mutations such as the classic Better Aff., only with a wide sinus. at a certain point he decided, together with the two other founders, to turn his passion into a profession and found 4Aroids.

Thilo

Thilo has been fascinated by nature and the environment since he was a child. It started with "Was ist Was" books, collecting grasshoppers in the neighboring field and fishing as a child and teenager, among other things. He studied biosciences in Münster for two semesters before being drawn to another field in Bochum due to a lack of prospects. In the heart of the Ruhr area, the proximity to nature was no longer so good, so nature had to come into his own apartment. Initially with dragon tree and sansevieria through to his first rare "aroids", Philodendron melanochrysum and verrucosum. As time went on, more and more "rarities" were added and the apartment became more and more crowded, and the first own imports from Indonesia were not long in coming and the own propagation started slowly. After the Philodendrons, the first Anthurium, A. veitchii, was added. Catalyzed by Instagram, the pandemic and the captivating blog post by an American collector, Thilo was fascinated by this genus from then on and went in search of the holy grail at the time - a pure A. papillilaminum - and found it after some time in the form of his A. papillilaminum (European collector's form/'Daniel').
The first anthurium to bloom in his hands was A. blue papillilaminum. He had received it a while earlier by chance from Indonesia. The first successful pollination was A. blue papillilaminum x self. Shortly afterwards, many more pollinations and the first seed sales followed, and the increasing number of plants and workload meant that Thilo continued to focus on the Anthurium genus. Many philodendrons and other species had to make way. Now the focus is mainly on hybridizing selected mother plants. On the one hand, the preservation of pure species and, on the other, the creation of hybrids with outstanding characteristics are important to him. The aim is to make these available to the majority of plant lovers at acceptable prices. One particularly outstanding hybrid to date is A. papillilaminum EU x besseae aff.

Uli

Always blessed with a green thumb and a big heart for everything that creeps, flies and grows, Uli began to live out his passion for plants and animals at an early age. What was a hobby at school later became a profession during his studies. As an outdoor ecologist specializing in botany and ornithology, he initially found himself taking care of the local flora and fauna in and around Heidelberg to live out his love of nature.
Due to a chronic illness, however, he had to spontaneously reorient himself. As it was no longer possible to cultivate a garden, the focus shifted to cultivating houseplants, where Uli prefers to work with anthuriums. In order not to be accused of monoculture, he always manages to make side trips to other plant families and genera. Insectivores, ferns and succulents are also part of his collection, which continues to grow to this day.
So why not turn your new passion into a profession?
