Blister Variegation

Blister variegation

Blister variegation is a form of leaf discoloration or variegation in which the leaves have a pattern of raised, often inflated or swollen-looking spots that contrast in color with the rest of the leaf surface.

Features:

  • Spot pattern: The affected areas may be lighter (e.g. white, yellow) or darker than the rest of the leaf.

  • Blistering structure: Often the spots are slightly raised, giving them a “blister-like” appearance.

Causes: This form of variegation can be genetic, but can also be caused by infections (e.g. viruses), environmental stress such as lack of light, heat or nutrient imbalances.
