The spadix is ​​the central, cylindrical structure, also called the piston, on which the small, hermaphroditic and densely packed flowers of the anthurium can be found. The piston has different stalks and itself - depending on the species - is colored and shaped differently.

Together with the spathe (flower sheath, see explanation here: Spatha), the spadix and spathe form the flower structure, which are crucial defining characteristics for genera and species of the Aaronic family (Araceae).
