Denis Rotolante (father of William and founder of SKG/Silver Krome Gardens) received the seeds of the original Anthurium Ace of Spades from his best friend Tomas Fennel III, who had a nursery called "The Orchid Jungle". Tom's father Tom II collected the originally unnamed plant in South America from an orchid forest. It was the only Anthurium there, so it is most likely a self-pollinated plant that was pollinated by nature, beetles, etc. It is not known where exactly in South America it was found.

Denis bred the seeds and kept one seedling that he particularly liked - now known as Anthurium Ace of Spades (AoS) - and gave away the remaining seedlings.

Denis once mentioned that the plant originally collected in the jungle was similar to the Anthurium Hoffmani Red Sinus Blood Moon. The original plant was unfortunately lost in Hurricane Andrew. But Denis Rotolante's Anthurium Ace of Spades (AoS) survived the natural disaster because he brought it into his house along with some other plants. Many other plants from Silver Krome Gardens were also destroyed in this hurricane.

SKG has been breeding and selling the Anthurium Ace Of Spades (AoS) from seed since the late 1980s. It was also produced in small numbers in TC (Tissue Culture) for a short time in the early 2000s.

All genuine Anthurium Ace Of Spades (AoS) on the market today descend from this one plant by Denis Rotolante.

Ace of Spades (AoS) (dark)

The dark form of the AoS, the Anthurium Ace Of Spades (dark) is a selected selection of seedlings that have a particularly dark leaf color. Since they are only produced in very small numbers per flower, if dark seedlings are produced at all, the prices (due to the small quantity) are much higher than those of the original Anthurium Ace Of Spades (AoS) (green). According to Tezula, less than 10% of the Anthurium Ace Of Spades (AoS) (green) seedlings have a dark color. A well-known Ace of Spades dark is the so-called "Tezula Clone".

In addition to the classic Anthurium Ace of Spades from Tezula or Silver Krome Gardens, there is another, the Anthurium Ace of Spades (AoS) "NoveltyG". It comes from the Hawaiian nursery Novelty Greens. Its leaves are considered darker than those of the Anthurium Ace of Spades from Tezula or Silver Krone Gardens.
