Anthurium crystallinum 'FTG' originates — as the name suggests — from the Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami, USA. Despite the name, it's unlikely that this plant is a pure A. crystallinum. What exactly the plant is or where it originates from is a mystery that will probably never be solved.
We suspect it's a hybrid of A. crystallinum and A. magnificum, or a mutation of the latter. However, we can't be sure.
The plant appeared in the collection of the Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami several decades ago, and to this day, any documentation regarding its acquisition or provenance is missing from the botanical garden's database. Chad Husby, curator and 'Chief Explorer' of the FTG, is just as perplexed as we are and cannot provide any further details regarding its identification and origin.
A handful of hybrids of A. crystallinum 'FTG', as well as clones or selfings, have now come onto the market. In the latter case, most individuals differ in the shape of the more or less flat sinus and the intensity of the silvery veins.
Definitely interesting for breeding and hybridization, and also used by us for this purpose, this plant remains as mysterious as it is exciting.
