Germination is the physiological process by which an anthurium seed begins to acquire metabolic activity and grow into a seedling. This process represents the first phase in the life cycle of an anthurium and marks the transition from seed dormancy to active development.

In commercial anthurium cultivation, both ungerminated and germinated seeds are offered. However, purchasing germinated seeds is preferred, as ungerminated seeds do not always have reliable germination. This is because not all harvested seeds are viable, which can significantly reduce the chances of success in cultivation.
